Dubia - Silicon Oasis and DIA in site safety deal

Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the innovations hub for high tech industries, announced yesterday the signing of a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dubai Industrial Academy (DIA) and Zoning Authority Development Control (ZA) under the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority to implement a site safety passport (SSP) programme.

Following a number of high profile failures of tower cranes in recent years, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced its proposals for a conventional tower crane register which is expected to come into force on 6 April 2010. There are around 1800 conventional tower cranes thought to be operating on construction sites in Britain with around 1300 in use at any one time. Given those figures there will be a substantial number of construction businesses affected by the proposed new requirements.
