Since 1954 safety, security and health at work has been highlighted in Düsseldorf by the biannual A+A trade show. It presents various aspects of safety at work and showcases the latest product developments in personal protective equipment. In 2009 the 28th A+A took place from 3rd until 6th of November when 1541 exhibitors from 62 countries gathered in the heart of North-Rhine Westphalia and presented their products to almost 60,000 experts.

SE Asia-Expert cites importance of toxic-free environment

A VISITING US expert on Monday underscored the importance of applying the “precautionary principle” (PP) to ensure a toxic-free and life-sustaining environment to protect people and the environment from harm.
Paul Connett, a specialist on environmental chemistry and toxicology who has gone to 52 countries promoting zero waste and chemical safety, told participants to a seminar on toxicology at the Occupational Safety and Health Center in Quezon City that precautionary measures should be taken whenever an activity raises threats of harm to the environment or human health “even if some cause-and-effect relationships are not fully established scientifically.”

South Africa has lost 143 miners to mining accidents in 2009, Minister of Mineral Resources Susan Shabangu said.
Falls of ground accidents were still the largest accident category and predominant cause of fatalities in the country's mines, the minister told the 120th annual general meeting of the Chamber of Mines

A not so good news story

A 30-year-old man died and four others were injured after they fell from a height of 25 metres as their safety belt broke on the construction site of 7th and 8th modernization unit of Mejia Thermal power station of Damodar Valley Corporation at around 2.00 pm on Tuesday.
